I haven't been to Mexico since COVID state of emergency started here in California, any body have an insight on the alcohol/beer shortage in Mexico right now. I read several people have died from drinking tainted cheap bootleg liquor.

No beer but you can still buy in supermarkets a lot of wine, tequila, vodka, etc.

A friend of mine in Puebla said you can get beer but it will be imports and it will cost you about 35-45 pesos a bottle or can. So for most in Mexico going through a crisis that's as good as not being able to get beer.

The Asturiano in my neighborhood in Querétaro just got in a nice selection of Mexican craft beers a few days ago, including some I haven't seen before, priced from 20-30 pesos per bottle. They have maintained beer sales valiantly throughout the crisis, first with Cucapa beers and Hoegaarden, and now these new arrivals. They have my business! Maybe other Asturianos are doing similar. I believe in supporting small businesses that are trying to address the crisis creatively.

I'm in metro Guadalajara and supermarkets are pretty much done with major brands.

What you can still get is either craft beers (like Minerva) by the bottle or weird no-name beers that have recently appeared in 16 oz cans. I haven't seen much price markup, craft beers run about 32-50 pesos per 12 oz bottle (like befoer) and the weirdo beers maybe 30 pesos. The main thing missing is stuff like Corona, Modelo, Pacifico, etc. that was in the 150-180 pesos for a 12 pack range. Strangely there are a couple of 12 packs of Milwaukee's Best in the nearest supermarket that so far even desperate people have been unwilling to touch.

Wine, rum, etc. no difference here.
