They are saying the center portion came down first - that would be where the elevators are located, then the gulfstream side came down. Speculation ranges from a sinkhole (me) to an earthquake. There was one off Ponce Inlet last week, when the Navy set off a MOAB to drown proof the carrier GB Ford.

But for years, the officials were warned about building too many condos along that stretch - simply putting too much pressure on the sand, soils and marl. You've got to go a long way down to hit any sort of bedrock there and in the Keys. Perhaps it's why you don't see any real high rises there.

It's not so much that the ocean is rising, it's that the land is sinking.

You mean the Atlantic?

Many Florida municipalities have building height restrictions. I haven't looked up the town of Surfside, but it might be why there aren't high rises there.

This is beyond horrible. My bro will probably be on site working tomorrow. I can't even imagine this whole thing and the families, etc.

I was stationed in several bases in Fla - on both coasts and the Key West too. Always had that arguement. The Gulfstream is what I was referring to. You can call it the Atlantic if you wish, BUT it's all the same water.

He calls the Atlantic the Gulf (For The Stream) to each their own.

There are people in Florida that do NOT even know about the Gulfstream up the Atlantic
