In the Army, we use the term Lieutenant Mafia. LOL.

"No Colonel left behind" - O-6 moving directly to work for a contractor following retirement.

Old Man-the commander, even if he's fairly young (e.g. a Captain or a junior LTC).

SNAFU - Situation Normal, all fu...fouled up.

Dustbowl - where units rotating into the National Training Center (NTC) live in misery just before the rotation starts, because it's basically a bowl. Full of dust.

Mutant MRE Birds - gigantic crows at the NTC that have grown so large by eating leftover MREs, they need the bird equivalent of a runway to take off, or land.

Sham - act busy even if you're not at all busy.

Sham Shield - Specialist rank, it looks a little bit like a shield and it means it's the highest rank you can hold in the Army before you absolutely must take responsibility for things getting done.

I still have my BCG's. I got out of the Army years ago, but they are in a drawer for memories.

"High and Tight" - men's military haircut

"Mandatory Fun" - a required social event

"Zero Dark Thirty" - really, really early in the morning!

One of my personal favorites is "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!"

I can say this one because several members of my family are active duty Air Force and they use it themselves! "Chair Force"

What's for breakfast? SOS!

My family always uses the term "ETA" for Estimated Time of Arrival.

And "Police the Area" - clean up your room!

"Ground Zero" is never a good place to be.

"No Hover Zone" means "Leave me alone and let me do this myself!

And "I really caught some flak for that one." Self explanatory.

And one of the most used phrases of all - HOOOAH! aka as "HUA" - Heard, Understood, Acknowledged!
