Is it normal for there to be a 30 day wait for DLA to be paid out? The leaving base denied us the DLA and said they dont "do" advances (so what is the point of DLA?) and new base says 30 days processing?

30 days is the longest. Depends if timing is right so you can synch up with the bi-weekly input cutoff by finance. Youmight get TLA which is quicker (filled like TDY- faster). You get up to 10 days of hotel costs covered as part of TLA. Between the travel allowances, TLA, and DLA, you'll come out ahead, just not immediate return of funds.

I don't remember and it has been a long time. I would always ask for the maximum "advance travel pay" I could get. (A bad move for some people).
But:
Quote:
The purpose of DLA is to partially reimburse a member for the expenses incurred in relocating the household on a PCS, ordered for the Government's convenience, or incident to an evacuation. This allowance is in addition to all other allowances authorized in this Joint Federal Travel Regulation (JFTR) and may be paid in advance.
*most* bases seem to do an advance for DLA to help pay for deposits and things needed for the new location, but apparently macdill is hard up about that and refuses
Our new base isnt any better as I've been warned they *frequently* lose paperwork. They told us our DITY move would be reimbursed after 2 weeks, well that didnt happen either.
You can get an advance on some travel entitlements, but I once tried to get a DLA advance, and was shown a JTR prohibiting it be given as an advance. The last time I filed it took about 3 weeks.
