Four different parts of the services from 1965 thru 2006,
Enlisted USN 1965 - 1969
Year and six month break
Reenlisted USNR 1971 - 1977
Transferred to MNANG 1977 for OCS
Transferred to USAR 1986 - 2002 into IRR
Reactivated Vol. 2005 – 2006 tour in Iraq
31 Good years all in all I wouldn’t change a bit of my service
Navy was very good on active duty, but being young I missed Home and was at sea a great deal, most of the reason for leaving the fleet. Requested a transfer to anyplace and got is RVN. Serviced my last year in RVN at Cam Rahn Bay and South of Saigon on the fork in the delta call Na Bea.
Servicing in the USAR was also good extra pay each month and two extra week of vacation away from work. (Not Married at the Time)
Service in the MNANG was a great training and go time to become a leader. But once you progress above LT you become part of the good old boy system of guard politics and who you know issues. Thank good ness I think some of this has gone away since 2003.
USAR Was the Best of All, for my money instead of reducing the USAR over the years the Guard should have been returned to a Head Quarters Staff Function and the USAR should have become the main reserve.
The last year of service was voluntary as I came out of the “Gray Retired” and wished to do my part. I served with MNF-I from Jan 2006 to Dec 2006, and would go again.

He's retired military-served 22+ years, 4 in Air Force and 18+ in Coast Guard and that's when he served in Nam. Service life was a tough on both of us-as whereever he was stationed, family could not be there, i.e.-Arctic Circle, Cuba, Nam, on vessels but it's an experience that was well worth it. Veteran's deservedly warrant our thanks.
Veterans wives and families deserve our thanks, too. I am a veteran and many of the guys I was in with could not have made it without you supporting them. Thank You, Vets families.

Army Reserves (Texas unit) Feb.2008-Getting out Sep.27, 2008 Im done done done!!! It was a love hate relationship the last couple of years after I came back from deployment because I loved my MN unit so much and the other units I have been in since just didn't feel the same. In less than a month I will retire as an E-5.
Often our discussions address the military, and I am wondering how many members have served or fought in one of several wars, interventions or invasions. (Multiple choice for those who served in more than one!)

Almost went to Iraq in 95. We were on TAD on MCAS Yuma and woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of all the infantry guys hauling butt out of there. When we got back to MCAS Tustin we found out that Saddam had made some more movements toward Kuwait. Got all our stuff packed up, paperwork filled out, etc. and then suddenly were told to stand down.
Just voted. I served in Iraq from July 2005 -Feb 2006 . I was based in Camp Blue Diamond in Ramadi, but made the rounds to Fallujah, Al Asad, and Al Taqadum while there. Was part of the Iraqi vote and transfer of Blue Diamond over to ISF. I was part of two campaigns, but I don't remember the fancy schmancy name for them.
