Well the DIs used it all the time. They could have at least explained it.
Yes. To the person who messaged me and asked if I was that ignorant. Completely ignorant as to the origin of the phrase Pogie bait. It was used by DIs to describe fatties. Never heard POG used in the Marines. Just Grunts and Air Wingers.

And thanks for asking!
Same here in the Army at Fort Knox which had the armor basic training brigade and a general all MOS basic training brigade. And since I was not in an infantry basic training course at Fort Benning by definition everybody there was a POG, except for the few from the ROTC summer camp who would go on to get a commission as an infantry officer.
That's what I get for not reading recent combat memoirs.
So on one side we have an everybody and job is important mindset but then again on the other side the Marine Corps likes to say every Marine is a rifleman. Meanwhile in the US Army we go to basic training and sing Jody calls about wishing to be an Airborne Ranger.
REMFs always worked for me
or Bean Counters. People for whom the number of things is more important than what those things are
I was a medic in the army, I wouldn't classify my MOS as POG since that MOS is also known affectionately as "Combat Medic." If you think about it, medics are nothing but glorified 11Bs carrying M5 medic packs along with a rifle. BTW, I never served in combat, so I'm just throwing that out there and to give real credit to Vets and active folks only.
Basically the following -
Cavalry/Tanks
Artillery and Missiles
Engineers - both field and equipment repair
Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD)
Signals
Medical, Dental and Nursing
Veterinary and Dog Units
Logistics/Supplies
Intelligence and Reconnaissance
Military Police and Dicipline
Air Corps
Training Corps and specialist training
Special Forces and Pathfinders
Air Mobile, Parachute (Airborne) and Commando are also notable different to normal line infantry
Army Musicians (Regimental Bands) - who act as battlefield stretcher bearers when needed
Chaplains Department

I have a good friend whose MOS starts with 08, a Field Artillery Cannoneer? (I could be wrong)
He has been deployed at least four times, and has a purple heart. I heard other Marines making fun of him once, saying he is still a POG. He was never offended by that.
I am just a civilian, I've been told in the Marine Corps at least, if you are not 03xx, then you are a POG. To me, MOS doesn't really matter, there are only true warriors. I think my friend is a true warrior although he's not a 03xx.
Artillery is 13-series. I was a 13B - Cannon Crewmember.
I know 13 Bang Bangs are Army, but have no idea about the Corps. The post you quoted was a Marine reference.
My mistake - early morning post before the brain kicked in. I saw "08" and was immediately confused.
