Another fan of USAA - We've got two cars, two houses and an umbrella policy with them.

When we first started out, we used their free financial planning advice/services (NFCU is also great in that regard)

Been With USAA my whole life.... as a Military brat, and since becoming Active Duty. Haven't let me down yet, and doubt they ever will. You get what you pay for. Not to mention them being based in my hometown makes me partial.

Had USAA since 1979. ... (just checked my card). I get quotes from other companies every so often and they can never compete when comparing apples to apples.

If the quote comes in lower from another company read everything VERY carefully.
The limits are probably lower and the deductable is probably higher.

I thought I would mention the following, too.

The USAA 800 number system is the best in the country. In my job I compared all of them. USAA constantly came out on top of all the others in customer service, polite and well informed call center reps. The followup service also ranked above any of the others. Plus, as Poncho_NM mentioned, it is nice to get the dividend check in November each year.

In short, as someone else mentioned, you get what you pay for. My parents always had USAA and when I decided to go with it, USAA already had all my info because I had been covered as a military dependent. It was the same thing for my sis and BIL.

I love USAA.

Maybe we can arrange to have Hal's voice (from 2001 A Space Odyssey) but factor in the fact that he was a killer.

I have been with USAA since my first year in the Army, 1997. I have life, car, homeowners and renters insurance with them. They are great. I have never had one problem. Excellent customer service!!

I've heard some great things about Allstate. I like their commercials. But I've been with USAA since '74 and I'm staying here unless something inconceivable happens...

Their insurance is good and their banking is GREAT!

They don't kill you with fees (overdraft etc) like most banks do. In the past if I wasn't paying attention to my balance I could easily get charged $150 in overdraft fees in one day with another bank. USAA gives you a grace period to get some money back in your account. The times in our lives that we were living paycheck to paycheck they really saved our butt. I don't think they have ever raised our CC interest or reported it if we were late on a payment either. Love USAA. We do everything we can through them.
