Hi Everyone:

My family is looking for a community to move to in the Metro MKE area. We are looking for:

-A diverse community (people & culture)
-Good public schools with diversity
-Within 15 minutes of Downtown
-Own a home in a good neighborhood
-Kid friendly (We have 2yr and 5 yr olds)

Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

I don't know of any neighborhoods that are in a good school district (i.e., not in Milwaukee proper) that I would also give the label "diverse."

Shorewood is probably the closest community to what you're looking for.

I will just throw this out there, because half the fun of these sites is to get other peoples opinion who know more.

Riverwest? It has a decent public school, atleast for highschool, dont know about grammar school. I know that suburbs in general do have better schools. i am biased because we own a duplex in riverwest, it is an improving area, but yes still has crime, but has definitely been gentrifying and this can be backed up with census data showing a definitely demographic shift in regards to race, there is a nytimes article i can find that shows census tracts across the entire united states showing census changes from 2000 to 2010.

There is definitely diversity, public schools seem decent (would just like to know other people's opinion/experiences), there is culture, people do have kids in the area and things for kids to do, the park where the resevoir is at was totally redone. Its an improving neighborhood for sure. And it is just 15 minutes from downtown.

What do you guys think?

I am biased because I grew up in a city and will always do what I can to make cities better, ofcourse that should not be to the detriment of anyone's children, the schools usually are the last things to improve in a city neighborhood.
