It's overall safe enough for some people to choose to live there versus other reasonably nice parts of the city.

When my husband and I were house-hunting, we were quite impressed with Riverwest. Some parts seemed safer than others, but what really stood out to us was the neighborliness of people-- very strong local, neighborhood networks. There's some of that in Bay View, but not really to the same extent, imo.

It's fine...

Seemed like a gentrifying hipster place when I was there a few years back.

Thank you! I like the Riverwest mostly because it is a diverse community in a hyper-segregated city. Plus, the neighbors seem to look out for each other. Life is too short to live in fear all the time.

Perhaps, but I'll take my chances in different neighborhoods. Shootings in Riverwest are reported in the Journal Sentinel, which I subscribe to online, so, it would never be my neighborhood of choice.

Shootings happen in large urban areas (and outside them), they key is, are they random or targeted.

And yet, I live in Riverwest, along with all of my neighbors who have never been shot. How could this be?

I understand what you're saying, but you should also, understand what I'm saying. The map tells a story....

I guess the picture can be painted however one wants. Burglaries are pretty unsettling to me. You can love it there, I just avoid it. To each, his own.
