I have not seen the show, but I can assure you they haven't put much of a dent on Laurel.

White, typically older. I worked at a debris pit near Collins. An old man who had volunteered his property for the site was a regular user of the term. I knew better than say anything to him. Pretty shocking though.

Every day when I drove to the site I had the weirdest feelings, remembering the freedom riders. I actually rarely saw people of color in Laurel or Collins.

I do remember a great catfish truck on Fridays in Hot Coffee. Man, that was great food.

I've seen African-Americans on Home Town. The presence of African-Americans goes both ways. Perhaps many local African-Americans aren't interested in having them work on their projects? Too many things going on here to try to say that there is something wrong going on.

Interestingly, the Anglo Canadian accent is also said to be most similar to the California accent out of any American accent. Not all Canadians say aboat the hoos.

I saw Home Town being played on a TV in a model home in Oklahoma. I actually thought the architecture in Laurel looked kind of like Oklahoma, almost Midwestern. My only impression of Mississippi was a two month summer internship around Biloxi and Slidell, the architecture there on the Gulf looked a lot more Southern, with the Acadian architecture, mansard roofs, roofs made of metal, and even some Spanish colonial houses thrown in.

This is bogus. There are a lot of conservatives in Canada, and Canada is more conservative (classical liberal) about some things than the good ole U.S. of A. No estate tax, for example. Canada also has a variety of accents. The stereotypical Canadian accent is most similar to the Upper Midwestern accent. Understand, eh?
