And they provide interesting yard art over time...and valuable for historians of the future...

So he takes the truck and I stay off the roads if things look to dicey in my car. She does good with the snow tires, but there's still days when I'm just better off staying home. However with a second truck in the winter we'll both drive the trucks and the car can just be the summer commuter. This was never the plan when we lived in California, but the winters here are rough, and the distances too great.

Finally we also bought a travel trailer last March because I wanted to explore all this beautiful wilderness around us. There's also talks of getting a snow mobile or two, or maybe a four-wheeler. You can see how all these vehicles can add up over time.

Glad to hear you are getting another truck. Cowboy state needs to get this distinction back! Pricey license plates be darned.
Also have to get the "pickups per capita" title wrestled away from North Dakota. (We're currently in second)

We are both in our late 80s. We live across the street from the city limits and best part of the town. We have 2 vehicles. 1 is a 1999 Ford F-150 that looks like new, and only about 70,000 miles and permanent plates. . It has never had any mechanical or body work. The other is a Ford Explorer Limited SUV, bought new in 2011 (2012) model, with less than 34,000 miles Bought our first SUV (Chev. Suburban) in mid 70s, and have kept SUVs around since then.

Permanent plates can be had for any vehicle that is 11 years old or older, for a slightly higher fee, and you are licensed for the life of the vehicle with no more registration fees to pay.

We were out in Oregon one time, rolling down the highway between Newberg and McMinnville (where
the Spruce Goose is). Went past a pasture with several antique trucks in it that had plants growing up
through them. Decided that must be what they mean by a "truck farm."

My truck is lonely. I just caught it placing a personal:

Handsome, mature F350 seeks companionship from something half its size and twice its drive train

Apparently it considers the four trailers unsuitable for getting hitched.

A large share of them are corporate vehicles and motorhomes registered in Montana to avoid sales tax. Also a LOT of exotic cars. That means, if you buy an $800,000 Maserati, Lamborghini, Bentley, Porsche, Bugatti, McLaren, Aston Martin, Mercedes Benz, BMW, Mangusta, or any expensive vehicle, you'll only be looking at $300 for a Montana LLC and $500 for us to get the plates, registration and title, and $825 for the Luxury Tax.

This list is from the Division of Motor Vehicles via the Office of Budget and Program Planning) of luxury Montana-registered cars worth over $150,000, along with associated proposed annual fees:
  • Acura NSX, 10 vehicles valued at $180,000 apiece, with total fees of $16,200 charged to all 10 vehicle owners.
  • Aston DB11, three vehicles valued at $215,000 apiece, with total fees of $5,805.
  • Aston DB9, one vehicle valued at $200,000, with a total fee of $1,800.
  • Aston Rapide, one vehicle valued at $210,000, with a total fee of $1,890.
  • Aston Vanquish, five vehicles valued at $290,000 apiece, with total fees of $13,500.
  • Audi R8, 14 vehicles valued at $160,000 apiece, with total fees of $20,160.
  • Bentley, 40 vehicles valued at $220,000 apiece, with total fees of $79,200.
  • Bentley Mulsanne, five vehicles valued at $300,000 apiece with total fees of $13.500.
  • Bugatti Grand Sport Vitesse, one vehicle valued at $2.2 million, with total fees of $19,800.
  • Ferrari 458, 27 vehicles valued at $240,000 apiece, with total fees of $58,320.
  • Ferrari 458 Speciale, 49 vehicles valued at $270,000 apiece, with total fees of $119,070.
  • Ferrari 488, 79 vehicles valued at $250,000 apiece, with total fees of $177,750.
  • Ferrari California, 34 vehicles valued at $200,000 apiece, with total fees of $61,200.
  • Ferrari F12, 49 vehicles valued at $300,000 apiece, with total fees of $132,300.
  • Ferrari FF, nine vehicles valued at $300,000 apiece, with total fees of $24,300.
  • Ferrari F60, two vehicles valued at $2.5 million apiece, with total fees of $45,000.
  • Ferrari Laferrari, 14 vehicles valued at $1.5 million apiece, with total fees of $189,000.
  • Koenigsegg Agera One 1, one vehicle valued at $2 million, with total fees of $18,000.
  • Lamborghini Aventador, 55 vehicles valued at $400,000 apiece, with total fees of $198,000.
  • Lamborghini Huracan, 83 vehicles valued at $200,000 apiece, with total fees of $149,400.
  • McLaren 570, 14 vehicles valued at $190,000 apiece, with total fees of $23,940,
  • McLaren 650, 31 vehicles worth $350,000 apiece, with total fees of $97,650.
  • McLaren 675, 49 vehicles worth $350,000 apiece, with total fees of $154,350,
  • McLaren P1, 23 vehicles worth $1.15 million apiece, with total fees of $238,000.
  • Mercedes S550, 84 vehicles worth $190,000 apiece, with total fees of $143,640.
  • Mercedes S600, four vehicles worth $190,000 apiece, with total fees of $6,840.
  • Porsche 918, 40 vehicles valued at $850,000 apiece, with total fees of $306,000.
  • Pagani Huayra, four vehicles valued at $2.5 million apiece, with total fees of $90,000.
  • Rolls Royce Dawn, 18 vehicles valued at $340,000 apiece, with total fees of $55,080.
  • Rolls Royce Ghost, nine vehicles valued at $300,000 apiece, with total fees of $24,300.
  • Rolls Royce Phantom, 16 vehicles valued at $430,000 apiece, with total fees of $61,920.
  • Rolls Royce Wraith, 21 vehicles valued at $300,000 apiece, with total fees of $56,700.
Forty Porsche 918s? Four Pagani Huayras? Eighty-Three Huracans? Twenty-Three McLaren P1s? Good god, I know Montana has some rich natural resources, but damn: people are clearly milking this tax loophole.

Well, why should Montana object, when it's getting to collect the taxes and fees?

Ford trucks are like horses, actually very social and like to hang out together. I have a 95 F-150
short-bed that might be looking for a date.

I've noticed you can't have just one, at least not for long!! Maybe we should let them get together.

Correction, you can file an LLC in Montana for $70, and the $20 annual report fee each year after.
