I have narrowed my lodging choices to these two, but cannot decide (each has pluses and minuses), so am seeking input. Dates of stay April 12 - 18 with latter (4) days spent in full day conference at the Fairmont Hotel (Rue Mansfield and Rene-Levesque Bld West) and first (3) days sightseeing. I am in my mid-40s, plan to use the Metro and walk during my stay, and will be solo. I am not a shopper, so will spend my free time sight-seeing.
Hotel Champ is located at intersection of Rue Berri and Rue St Louis; Auberge is located at Rue Saint-Pierre and Place D'Youville. Both in Old Montreal.
Questions:
~Is either establishment located closer to cheaper eats?
~Are both in areas that can be walked in after dark in relative safety?
~Can I walk to the Fairmont from either OK (maps show a highway between Old Montreal and the Fairmont Hotel)?
~Does anyone have recent experiences at either lodging?
