The old logo was never the "official" flying dub v that the school uses. It was a blue and white version trademarked by the hospital. As others have already stated it has since been replaced by a nice new flying dub v on the newly constructed tower. Also, the family name that the hospital was built around was added on the existing West tower.

It looks nice now with the Ruby name and the flying dub v and wvu medicine in what looks like a really nice stainless steel, I wonder if it will have lighting behind so it glows around the stainless steel area.

Wasn't it Ruby long before the flying WV ever came into being?

No big deal, here, in my opinion. Let's Go! Mountaineers!!

The J.W. Ruby name already has the lighting behind it. So far, I have not noticed the "WV" having any sort of lights at night. This could be due to the new tower not being fully functional yet with the interior still being built (electrical).

bballjunkie: The hospital opened in '88 (not including the HSC which was the original hospital in the 60s), but I'm not sure when the flying dubv came to be.

It's now harder to get into Fairmont State than WVU based on ACT scores.

Where are you getting that? Please offer a link to back up that claim. If you are an instate student with a 2.0 average, you can get into any state school as long as you meet the prerequisite courses, which at WVU include 4 years of the same foreign language and an advanced high school math course (calculus, trig, or solid geometry), but I am not aware of any high school graduate with a 2.0 average who can pass those courses. WVU is the only state college without a "remedial" program at its main campus. Test scores of this freshman class are the highest in the school's history. Remedial students are referred to a branch campus and are not admitted to the main campus.

Also, due to 8 years of declining state appropriations, tuition is at an all time high, but more of the qualified students still select WVU, in spite of that, and the school is consistently rated as our state's best, even including the private institutions. This freshman class is 3 times larger than the freshman class of any other school in West Virginia.

Officially, WVU's website says it requires a 19, and Fairmont State says it requires an 18, and a similar relationship exists for the SAT. However, (and because I'm not willing to post an internal WVU document that may compromise the job of someone that I live with) Gee had a directive in the past 12 months that urged the provisional acceptance of students who scored greater than 14. Business trumps academic quality, in his eyes. To give the benefit of the doubt to you, perhaps FSU similarly accepts anyone who can show up and take a standardized exam.
