Forró is a genre of Brazilian music that originated in Northeastern Brazil.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forr%C3%B3

But "modern forró", that originated in the 1990's, is a lot different of traditional forró.

Until a few years ago this modern forró was popular only in Northeastern Brazil, but now it's becoming popular in all the other regions of the country, even if almost all artists and bands in the genre are from the Northeast.

The most known names in the genre today are:

- Wesley Safadão (solo singer)

- Aviões do Forró (a band that had a male and a female singer, but since 2017 the female singer quit in order to pursue a solo career, now it only has the male singer, Xand)

- Solange Almeida (female singer of Aviões do Forró, in solo career since 2017)

- Cavaleiros do Forró (a band)

The drums are one of the main characteristics of modern forró, that distinguish it from other genres.

This guy will show you how to play modern forró drums:

I couldn't forget to mention Riquelme, the drummer of Aviões do Forró, that is considered by many the great innovator in the forró drums, creating the drum style that is prevalent in modern forró since 2005-2006

Here is the guy, the legend, Riquelme, playing:

Here are some classics of modern forró from the 1990's (the decade when the genre was born).

The style back then was different of the style that is prevalent today. Romantic lyrics were the norm in the 1990's.

Limão com Mel - De janeiro a janeiro

Magníficos - Me usa

Brucelose - Sede de te amar

Mastruz com Leite - Noite fria

One interesting thing about the modern forró music industry is that there is a tradition in this industry (that was stronger in the past, and is not so prevalent today) of making "forró versions" of songs from other countries, from other genres, creating lyrics in Portuguese that have almost nothing to do with the lyrics of the original songs.

Here are just a two examples.

Forró Real - Amor Impossível

or (it's the same song)

Solteirões do Forró - Se eu olhar pra lua

that is a version of:

Shontelle - Impossible

-------------------------------------------------------------

Aviões do Forró - Blá Blá Blá

that is a version of

Natalie Imbruglia - Torn

which in turn is a version of:

Lis Sørensen - Brændt

Forrozão Tropykália - Planeta de Cores

that is a version of

Laura Pausini - Ascolta Il Tuo Cuore

--------------------------------------------------------------

Gatinha Manhosa - Isso é imortal

that is a version of

Delta Goodrem - Born to Try

--------------------------------------------------------------

Forró Balancear - Não dá mais meu amor

that is a version of

Hoobastank - The Reason

--------------------------------------------------------------

Caviar Com Rapadura - Só Pode Ser Amor

that is a version of

Bruno Mars - Talking To The Moon
