Probably the best thing I have heard from her so far. I am not finding this on Youtube so far.

Default The Mars Volta - Blacklight Shine

This video adds a lot of folkloric material after the actual song, but it is the official video, so it's their choice. I assume audio only is up on youtube as well. I like how they include the girl dancer doing a gesture to honor the drummers. (I remember that from an African dance class I took in college many years back!) Nice detail to capture. Given Mars Volta's enthusiasm for Afro-Latin music, collaboration with Larry Harlow, etc., I probably "should" like them more, but I have never clicked with them in a big way. This is okay though, so I'll see what it sounds like after repeated listens:

Also a new Panic! At the Disco song. This sounds like a pastiche of 70's styles. There is a Clash/Ramones (or at least generic punk) influence, and then there is a pretty obvious Queen influence. What else am I missing? Maybe a dash of Elvis Costello? Anyway, it sounds okay to me, but I am not sure how much I like either of these songs. I honestly had no idea Panic! At the Disco were so big. #118 in the world for the number of times they are streamed on Spotify? That's huge. They have never made much of an impression on me before.

This actually sounds pretty close to some phases of the Japanese band Tokyo Jihen's music, maybe one of their lesser songs that I don't quite hate.

I am going to post that Mars Volta song by itself after all, minus official video elaborations, since that official video is interrupted multiple times by commercials (ugh).

Default Ella Fitzgerald - Cheek to Cheek (live)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xv-E--ExbXU

Previously unreleased live recording. As classy and high-quality as expected. (Shame on me for not being more familiar with Ella! She's not exactly my cup of tea, but she's such a master, and sang such good material, I should stretch just a little more.)

The older I get, the more love I feel for my parents' generation. They really deserve the "Great Generation" label.

I mostly keep up with the retro scene and am not aware of any aside from this, or at least any others that caught my eyes (er..ears).

I'm not sure if it's retro or not, but a couple of days ago I came across this record (record 2022) and I really enjoyed the performance.

Default Bedouin Burger - Zamel

A lot of good Arab indie these days. Lynn Adib (singing here) is really something.
