Junkie, yes. Satanist? I would bet not even close. Family and friends have for years described Bolin as an engaging, caring man who was generous of heart and the little he had (because he died too young to amass any real wealth). If he had been able to kick drugs once and for all, I think his talent would have left a lasting legacy. His guitar prowess would have been as admired as that of Hendrix, Prince, EVH, et al.
I think a lot (most?) of the bands like Coven, Black Sabbath, etc. & artists like Ozzie & Cooper were / are all about the reputation and image. They put themselves out there as being on the dark side because it draws the rebellion.... everything our parents hated.
ETA: Except for Marilyn Manson. That thing is a 100% freak show. I could definitely see him as a Satanist; even if he's ok with that image being a mix of shock-rock & tongue-in-cheek, I really do think he's playing for the down below crowd.

Coven were real satanists, look at the video I posted. No nonsense or commercial crap. They were the real deal.
You sir, are a walking encyclopedia of music trivia. And that's a good thing
Yes, DOUBLE H knows alot about music. He has seen Deep Purple many times in the 70's down in the southern states and also Lynard Skynard.
