Los Angeles rapper Coolio, who rose to the national spotlight in the 1990s with his Grammy-winning hit "Gangsta's Paradise," died on Wednesday, his longtime manager Jarez Posey confirmed to ABC News. He was 59.
Coolio, whose legal name is Artis Leon Ivey Jr., was found unresponsive Wednesday afternoon while visiting a friend's house, and emergency personnel were called after he didn't come out of the bathroom, according to Posey. A cause of death has not yet been determined but an investigation is ongoing.
Terrible to hear.
These occurrences are happening earlier and earlier. Take care of yourselves people.
Not a huge fan of rap but it still makes me sad to read of an artist dying, especially at such a young age. And yes, even 59 is considered young to me. Condolences to his family, friends and fans. Keep listening to his music and he'll never really be gone.
I just heard Gangsta's Paradise again, and it's a solid song. I'd say it's marginally the best of the three iterations of that song (Pastime, Gangsta's, Amish), due to that ghostly choir in the refrain.
RIP. Hope your soul is experiencing "sumpin' brand new."

RIP Coolio. But I must confess then I have a soft spot for Weird Al Yankovic's parody Amish Paradise.
