No love for the saxophone? I played the alto in grade school, but never kept with it, so I may be a little biased.
It can be played in rock, smooth jazz or romantic melodies, etc.
I don't have a favorite artist, but I'll put on saxophone music on Youtube if I just want some chill background music.

Saxophone is a beautiful and versatile instrument. I have enjoyed a wide variety of music performed by professional saxophone players and, as with many instruments, my appreciation has grown over the years.

Here is a delightful performance at a music museum in my hometown from a solid saxophone quartet:

For me, as a guitar player (musician?), I think that almost any instrument has "the power to transport and tranfix" as it really is based on the artist's skills and abilities who is using that particular instrument. But I have to say that for me personally its the Guitar (acoustic or electric) and the cello that really REALLY do it for me.

While I am not moved at all by any guitar work by Santana or Clapton, I could almost be brought to tears with rock/blues solos from Stevie Ray Vaughn, Hendrix, or Steve Vai on his "For The Love Of God" song. The tonal vibration and sound from almost any cello really really speaks to my soul. Especially when well played like from a Yoyo Ma or Pablo Casals.

If I had to choose between those two, I'd say piano. I have a few artists on my list of favorites; #1 David Lanz, #2 Jim Brickman, #3 Ray Lynch. But there are so many others. Piano would be my first choice for relaxation, saxophone for jazzy sultry sexy music. I like violin but it tends to make me sleepy and I guess that would work if I'm having trouble falling asleep. I have a hard time putting any musical instrument in a box and say it's my favorite because it's not only the instrument that makes the music, it's the composition and feeling you get while listening to it. My two cents.

I love all kinds of music, from all instruments. But saxophones can take you on a journey.

Pretty moving composition, including a beautiful saxophone solo.
