Which of these recent hits is your favorite country song by a non country artist? I know some of these are crossing into country or trying to but they only have 1 country hit.
I understand the Sheryl Crow isn't alwasy considered legitimatley country though some news articles and soruces close to her claim its a country adaptation adn the video certainly feels very country. I actually like that version a lot more than any of the original versiosn of that song.
HOwever while I liked all of these above songs (the Jessica Simpson one slightly less) I have to go with Darius Rucker's. He has an amazing voice. I didn't like his old music (with the exception of Jessica I didn't any of the other artists old music either not even Jewel or Bon Jovi). I wish Darius had done country much earlier. He is a great singer and his music is authentic country, even more so Taylor Swift's 2 newest hits which IMO are too pop and not true enough to her roots.
Note...there is also a song where Miley Cyrus sings with her dad called "Ready Set Don't Go" which is a hit by Billy Ray Cyrus...but the duet version, while better, isn't the main release on country radio, that would be Billy Ray's solo version...she doesn't sing enough to count. But this si the only Miley Cyrus song I like.
Jewel, bon Jovi, Jessica Simpson all only have a single non country and no more - though Who Says You Can't Go Home is the first time in 20 something years that a non country band topped the country charts..in it duet with Sugarland - but I really hope Darius Rucker finds much more success in thsi genre.
Not sure if Cat (Yusef) meant "Cut" to be a country song but I get what your saying. Before I realized their was a list I was going to suggest "Don't Go Back To Rockville" by R.E.M. Then I did it anyway. They even wrote their country song. Arguably a perfect song. After an hour I could not find a link to do the song justice. The energy they got going now is something else. If anyone has a live clip of this song on the most recent tour (that doesn't suck) please post the link.
My first thought, too was "(Don't Go Back to) Rockville" by R.E.M., which wasn't intended to be a country song at all. Early versions played live were straight-on rock.

What about "Act Naturally" by the Beatles?
Came close to mentioning that song. Also, I love how R.E.M. have let their songs evolve over the years.
Dead Flowers--classic. That reminds me, Guns n' Roses "Use to Love Her"
I meant for the poll songs that are legitimately country and played on country radio stations. Don't Go Back to Rockville is a good songs since I've lived in Rockville and I'm from around there. The region used to have a small town feel but there's nothign country it...taken over by latte sipping yuppies and also illegals.
