Never posted! Shredmeister Tony MacAlpine's rare official video for "Key to the City" from his 1987 album Maximum Security. I had it on cassette! I like Tony Mac better than most of the other shred guys.
It's only been a couple years since I discovered Tony MacAlpine, he really has his way with the strings. That song has quite the eighties sound, and I'm surprised that when I lived in Southern California in the late eighties I never heard of him.
On the subject of masters of shred, here's a pair from the unheralded maestro from Loudness, Akira Takasaki; Eddie Van Halen had "Eruption", Akira has "Exploder". Also an interesting study in tapping as part of a 1986 Loudness tour. (2nd video, 5:15)
^ What I like about this thread is how it reminds me of those obscure songs from way back when. Shakin' Stevens wasn't well-known in the US but this charted in 1983. "Cry Just a Little Bit". (Later covered by a country artist, Sylvia.)

I'm pretty sure you're familiar with Vinnie Moore. His 1988 album Time Odyssey is Dream Theater-esque prog-metal (san vocals) before Dream Theater emerged in '89. Future DT alumnus Jordan Rudess even plays keyboards on Time Odyssey. Great album!
