I'm wondering how many people moved to the Nashville area in 2006 without first having a job and how has their job search turned out (i.e. how long to find a job? was it what you wanted? was the pay what you wanted? etc.)?

Do you like your commute? Do you like your company? What suggestions would you have for others attempting the same?

Thanks

Default No I haven't heard from anyone who's done it, though I'm certain

there are people who have. They're just not on this forum !!

Today I starting reconsidering again though because I spoke with a gal there who said the humidity in the summer is too much for her . Now I'm wondering if I will be able to handle it ??

I didn't respond here sooner b/c you asked if anyone had done this in '06. My husband and I came here in the summer of '01 without jobs. That first summer was a little uncomfortable, but I can honestly say it hasn't been an issue since. Employment has never (knock wood!) been a problem.

I wish you luck. We're very happy we took the leap.

I am taking the non-conventional approach when I move in April of seeking out temp work while trying to start up my freelance career. I've already got residency established, good skills and a network of friends, mentors and associates so I am hoping for the best.

We are also thinking of relocating to the Nashville area from Detroit. We are so done with this crime-infested, rusty cold hellhole. Been here since mid-70's from Ohio, and ready for a change. Have 2 kids in school, and one ready for college, 3 dogs and a cat. Would like a good area, even a country setting, in low 100k. Wife in medical insurance field, myself a truck driver and musician in national band. How is the employment there for these fields? We are coming down there soon to look around for employment and housing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I live in Paris, about 120 miles west of Nashville. Truck drivers are in high demand in all areas down here. Especially out of Nashville. Several insurance company admin offices in Nashville. Many "bedroom" communities around Nashville also. ( Less than hour commute.)

www.tennessean.com Nashville newspaper will give good overview.
