Lovelock is 85 miles east of Reno on the interstate, and Tonopah is half way between Vegas and Reno. Your comments and knowledge on the areas would be appreciated.

depends on what qualities/ammenities you are looking for.

tonopah has:
* great star gazing
* wide open spaces to hunt/atv/hike
* housing shortages
* most housing doesn't have wide expansive yards
* no building/zoning codes at all
* the wind always blows
* 1 bank (nv state)
* 1 grocery store (scolari's)
* handful of gas stations
* handful of mom & pop places to eat
* little to no health care - you will have to travel 2+ hrs for your basic health care needs
* everyone knows your business (population ~2500)

i cannot speak for lovelock

Lovelock has:
a bank, grocery store (Safeway), a couple of bars, a couple of gas stations including a "travel center" truckstop along the freeway, a community public swimming pool, a handful of mom & pop places to eat and a small hospital for basic health care needs.

Nearby is Rye Patch Reservoir https://travelnevada.com/discover/25...ecreation-area

Tonopah is not a place most people would want to live. It takes a very special type of person to live there. To visit or drive through, it's interesting, but to live there? Think long and hard.

It would only be for half the year, but don't want to live in a hell hole.

I used to love Reno, but haven't been since 97...lots of good steak dinners for 6 us, and good room during the week for 19. Housing seems to be in a bubble, especially compared to wage growth. Was interested in a small house in Lovelock, and it went under contract in four days.

Yeah the special type of person who wants to live literally in the middle of nowhere. I truly don’t understand that kind of person unless they’re fleeing the long arm of the law lol. Everything you want should be within 15-20 minutes of where you live from world class dining to major airports and hospitals to dozens of grocery stores and every single chain restaurant and cool niche businesses like barcades and comic book stores. Any place that doesn’t have those things is simply way too small for habitable living.

Hal, that’s cheap. Reno has a lot more to do than in 97. Lots of festivals and events.

yes, that house would be close to 200k in a decent Reno hood, I would guestimate. I lived in Bullhead for over a year in a nice estate condo I bought for 26k..in 1999. I did ok working as a sub teacher, for atrocious pay, but BHC is kind of a hellhole. Summerlin was better in 2009 for 35k, but while I loved the mountain scenery in LV, I actually enjoyed the gambling more in Laughlin, and there are just way too many Newyawkas in LV. 2009 was a most unusual time in LV, and that condo now rents for 800. So I like NV, especially the scenery, and my needs are pretty minimal, but certainly not some kind of off the grid phsycho. If I never see another pants below the arse, it won't be soon enough..so that kind of rules out anything remotely affordable LV of or Reno.
