Catching a flight Thursday - leaves at 10:15 and I need to park my car offsite. Trying to figure out when to leave. Traffic years ago on 78E (from 287 -> Newark) wasn't all that bad but I know with construction etc it may be different now.

Does anyone drive that way around 8'ish? How long on average will it take on that stretch?

TIA

Why not take the train? Its relaxing and cheaper if your going to be parking at EWR. Take the Raritan Valley line to Newark Penn then NEC to EWR.

There are a multitude of reasons, one being I live nowhere near the Raritan Valley line.

Newark recommends arrival 90 minutes before the flight. Leaving around 8.. Depending on where you are leaving from one mva or breakdown could ********* up. I'd rather be at the airport with more than enough time and relax.

LOL, yeah, but it's all cool. I appreciate his knowledge and passion. Unfortunately rail travel to the airport is just not a logical, viable option for me ~ if I have to drive 35 minutes to the train, I might as well drive the extra 20 and go all the way!

I'd want to be at the airport by 8:30 latest, so withboffsite parking, I'd say you want to leave no later than 7 to be safe. Nothing sucks more than missing a flight just due to a minor traffic incident.

yeah, that's my original thought, but I'm wondering if 78's a parking lot, do I even need to leave *earlier*!

I would allow an extra 20 minutes. For some reason in perfectly clear weather there are accidents on 78E in the AM. Could be the sun blind also. When we traveled 78E to airport early, we always allowed 20-30 minutes extra.

If your going to travel I78 you are running parallel to the commuter rail lines so no reason to drive. If you just want to drive that's OK. Just leave at 6:am.

Better to arrive 2 hrs. early than 1 minute late.
