Sussex County commute worst in the state (Passaic, Milford: home, schools)

Read this article in the NJ Herald, that the commute from Sussex Cty is the worst in the whole state of New Jersey. My own husband who worked in Tarrytown NY left at 4:30AM over the Tapanzee Bridge, and got out of work at 3:20PM and was home by 5:00PM only to do it over again, did it for 30 yrs.
I did the reverse commute for about 7 years, that was fine, but I always called Sussex County the "One Lane" County because many of the roads eventually go into one lane there.
Then I remember when the DOT wanted to dualize NJ 23 and the locals told them no, so you can't have it both ways.
I commuted from exit 19 on Rt 80 to Parsippany, which wasn't horrible, but still took up to an hour. In the end, the beauty of Sussex and the 3 acres my kids had to run around on made any drive worth it.
And just to complicate things more, Sussex has the worst weather compared to anywhere else in the state. While there is rain everywhere else in winter, Sussex often gets ice or snow.
Even having lived in NJ for 15 years I finally visited Sussex county for the first time recently. Seemed ok to visit, but far too remote for my taste.
They fought against the proposed Sparta line , now they'll have to wait till the mid 2020s. Shame to , that would have shaved 30-45mins off there commutes.
I can attest to this. I live in Sussex County and commute thirty miles to Randolph four days a week. Traffic usually isn't a problem, but it's an hour drive.
I don't enjoy driving that much, but I make the best of it.
Commuting from Sussex? No thanks! (But if you can handle it, more power to you!)
Twenty-five years ago, I was one of a handful of people who did the reverse commute. I lived in Passaic County and commuted to Sussex. Going against traffic was okay, but even at that, the commute was close to an hour each way.
Now I live in northern Morris. As a matter of sanity, I refuse to commute along Route 23. It's just nuts! If my only choice was to commute along 23 or relocate, I'd relocate.
There is no way I could tolerate a daily commute from Sussex -- or even further -- Milford, Wallenpaupack, etc. That said, there are plenty folk who can and do. My hat goes off to those who do so without whining and complaining. You have more commuting stamina that I do!
My brother and SIL commuted from Sparta to NYC for years. Now they look back and wonder how the hell they survived, LOL.
