My theory is that they sit down at their computer, and say something to themselves along the lines of...

and they then do a search for any threads containing even a vague reference to that type of situation, while simultaneously overlooking the fact that they are needlessly resurrecting a long-dormant thread.

I hope he HASN’T sold it by now. He can probably get $11,000 for the car now.

In this case though, unlike most, poster isn't a newbie but rather someone who has been here more than a decade themselves.

Also, we get those "similar thread" suggestions. Probably poster clicked on something and just didn't see how old it was.

If the OP had actually been paying for insurance and registration renewal on that vehicle for all of those years, his/her profit wouldn't necessarily have been as bountiful as it might appear at first glance.
