I think the suggestions will depend on your budget. You can go the full service route like United Van Lines or the less expensive "you pack yourself" options like Pods or U-pack. With Pods, they drop off a container in your drive way and you pack everything up yourself with the option to hire several workers for heavy lifting.

We're moving from northern NJ to northeast Florida in August and had 4 quotes from different full service movers and most were close in price. If you go this route, make sure you understand the difference between a bound quote and an unbound quote. With a bound quote, the estimator will take inventory of everything in your house and give you a bottomline locked in price based on his weight estimate. They can't charge you more if the estimator was wrong but may charge you less if the actual total weight is less than estimated.

With an unbound quote, the estimate is not guaranteed and if the actual total weight exceeds the estimate then you will be responsible for paying the overage.

With us, we have a 4 bedroom house and the weight estimates were all over the place. 1 company had us at 7,000 pounds (bound quote) and another had us at 11,000 pounds (unbound). The other 2 quotes were both 9,000 pounds (bound and unbound). Luckily the 7,000 pound quote came from a reputable company that came highly recommended and they offered us a bound quote (approx ~$6,300). DM me if you would like more info on who we chose. With U-pack, the quote was $4500 with 2 helpers/2 hours.

Make sure you open some credit cards with great promotions. My wife and I both opened Chase Sapphire Preferred cards so we can get 40,000 points each or combined $1,000 in travel after charging $4,000 on each card within 3 months of account opening.
