Any idea where I could find information on the history of J A Woronowicz & Brothers Co? The information I have is that it was a handkerchief factory in South River. Anyone know when it was founded? Is it still in business? If not, when did it cease business?

The 1940 census (you can see it for free at www.familysearch.org ) lists a Woronowicz family in South River & a few family members work in a handkerchief factory.
Ancestry.com has some family trees for surname Woronowicz in South River, so you could try contacting them for more info.
So funny that I should find this thread TODAY... I'm searching for my birth mother and her family, and I believe her father was one of the founders of the company! BethofVt, I'm interested in those hankies! And I'll be in Vermont this weekend, not far from Rutland.
My grandfather founded the company and I spent many summers around the factories. I know this post is old, but any questions, I'd be happy to answer.
Just wondering if you know when the company started and if no longer in business? If it is, did the name change and if so when? If it is closed, when did they close? Thanks for any information
The company was founded in the 1950's. It lasted until the mid-late 1990's. The founding brothers decided to dissolve the company, sell their client list, and destroy the machines. My great Uncle Oscar and my second Cousin Gary broke their contract and kept a few machines to do business out of Oscar's home. My father started a rival manufacturing business called American Fashion Concept. That lasted for about 3 or 4 years. All manufacturing began to be outsourced to China. American factories could no longer compete.
