Hi,

I'm looking to move within the next year to be closer to the Princeton area for employment. We are currently in Northern NJ.

Where are you coming from? Hudson County, NJ
Why are you moving? Closer Commute to Princeton/Lawrenceville
Where will you be working ? If NYC, what part of NYC? N/A

Will you buy or rent? Buy
What is your budget ? Up to 600K
What kind of place are you looking for ? A single family home (about 2100 sq. ft) with a nice sized yard.

Will anyone (spouse, children, pets) be moving with you ? Yes to both.
Do you need/want good public schools? Yes we will need good public schools.

Briefly describe the kind of neighborhood you'd like to live in:

I would love to live in a town with a lot of young families with children. Ideally it would also have a downtown of some sort. I also prefer to have sidewalks. I do not wish to live in an area that is too rural.

List three things that are important to you in order of importance:

1. Commute to Lawrenceville/Princeton should be less than 45 minutes and ideally the commute would be traveling south. We do not want to move any further south than the Princeton area as we will need to come back to Northern NJ quite frequently on the weekends.

2. Great schools

3. Family oriented town (preferably with sidewalks)

Thank you in advance for your suggestions!!!

Princeton would be a great choice, your budget might be a little light but it fits your other criteria.
Ditto for Cranbury, the kids go to elementary school in Cranbury and are bussed into Princeton for high school. Parts of East Windsor and South Brunswick have a Cranbury address but have their own schools. (South Brunswick Schools are good).

Robbinsville and Plainsboro have good schools and "town centers" not down towns, lots of kids and houses in your price range.

Thank you for your feedback! I would love to move to Cranbury but there is little inventory in our price range.

I'll look further into the other towns you mentioned.

Pennington and Robbinsville might work for you. West Windsor/Plainsboro addresses have excellent schools, but as a previous poster mentioned, no real "downtown". You're still close enough to enjoy the downtown atmosphere/main street of Princeton and Cranbury.

Plainsboro has added a "downtown" of sorts in one area. I think you could find something suitable in Princeton, Pennington, or Hopewell. All have a downtown and are full of families! Robbinsville is nice but a bit more housing heavy than a mix of houses/downtown.
