@Busch Boy I would love excellent schools. I am not sure that we have a budget for excellent schools unfortunately which bums me out. So I am trying to find the best school system for under $700k with no more than a 1.5 hr commute to Brooklyn—not easy! We loved Cranford! It seems too far to Brooklyn though unfortunately.

Are you driving to Brooklyn or taking public transportation? I only ask because by public transportation, I would think Cranford is quicker than West Orange since there’s no train in West Orange.

We are thinking public transportation. We going off of google maps options and other research. It looks like many places in Cranford are 1 hour and 45 minutes to office. Which is only 15 minutes further than West Orange or Verona but makes a big difference when it’s almost 2 hours away! But we did really like Cranford!

I also don’t think Cranford is in our realtor’s “area” so she’s not pushing it ha. Just want the best schools for a decent price and a decent commute. Definitely makes my head spin!!

In WO on the Verona border. In that area the two towns are pretty much indistinguishable from another.

In terms of schools performance wise they’re equal on the elementary school level. Middle and high school Verona performs better but that’s just due to not having the socio/economic diversity WO has.

In terms of the commute WO is better as there is a jitney to the train. It supports most of the town but ideally you’d want to live as close as possible to South Orange as that would be the quickest ride to their train. 700K will get you more in WO than Verona but you can find something in both towns at that price. The part near South Orange is called Gregory, 700k would get you something nice I would think.

Hmm. In general, NJ is better suited for Manhattan commutes. Brooklyn is probably the least accessible Boro from here, along with Queens. Have you considered looking into Long Island instead of Jersey?

If you’re dead set on Jersey, I would also recommend Rutherford or Fair Lawn in Bergen County. Not stellar, but pretty solid schools and well within your budget.

You make a good point with the commute… Long Island has been suggested to us. I think we see ourselves living in a New Jersey Township long term. Spouses office location could change or he could change companies altogether once up in the area. But I appreciate your thoughts as Long Island is still worth considering again! Thank you!
