Interesting piece by NJ101.5 about hush money being paid out to mayor's. Ocean City, MD mayor was offered $2 million to shutup about Offshore Wind which he rejected, and apparently 5 towns in Delaware accepted hush money to not talk negatively about Offshore wind.
NJ1015 asks the mayor's of NJ towns if they were offered hush money.
This slipped under the radar, but apparently 3 mayor's from Atlantic City were given 1.5 million by offshore Wind after several whales washed up on their beaches.
Outgoing Mayor of Margate, Michael Becker playing defense. Becker claims he can take wind money and criticize wind companies at the same time. This conflicts with Margate official Roger McLarnon noting that wind funds are handed out in stages, suggesting some monies could be held back.
Ørsted reports that all three Downbeach towns requested Orsted Wind grant money.
A Humpback Whale died in in LBI (Long Beach Township) this morning. Shell is building the Atlantic Shores Wind Turbine Farm off 8 miles off the coast of LBI, down through Brigantine.
4 more dolphins and a porpoise died.
1. Sea Isle City, Bottlenose Dolphin
2. Cape May, Bottlenose Dolphin
3. Atlantic Highlands, Bottlenose Dolphin
4. Ocean City, Harbor Porpoise
5. Ventnor City, Bottlenose Dolphin (another one from previous a week earlier, and it was alive on the beach (very sad))
It appears this whale was hit by a ship or ran into a ship. Very hard.
"The whale was a juvenile male, over one year old, measuring 24 feet 10 inches in length. Initial findings showed evidence of bruising around the head with a hematoma present, multiple fractures of the skull and cervical vertebrae, numerous dislocated ribs, and a dislocated scapula. These injuries are consistent with blunt force trauma. Most of the major internal organs were liquefied, with only the heart identifiable."
Offshore wind survey vessels Go Pursuit and Furgo Explorer have been working in the area for the last several days including yesterday. See attached.
Was the young whale disoriented and fleeing from sonar? Deafened by sonar and didn't hear the ship?
Common sense says this is possible since whales flee from sonar.
BOEM and NOAA issue Takes so the killing of this whale is legal all in the name of developing wind turbine projects that are not green and do not work and will drive our electricity costs higher.
Watching this young whale roll around in the surf is gut wrenching, knowing this is being driven by bad policy and the hunt for profits. Video here. Here too.
More here including maps of NJ offshore wind projects and simulated photos of what the turbines will look like from the NJ beaches.

A bottlenose dolphin also died in Seaside Park also the same day. Could there be a nexus between them?
A dolphin in Surf City, NJ and an unidentified (as of now) whale in the Hudson this weekend.
An endangered Fin Whale washed up in Delaware today too.
