I was away up in Ontario for a couple of years, but now I'm back working PT. So, most of my NYC working life has been in lower Manhattan.

There's certainly a lot going on in the infrastructure world in NYC right now.
So cool. All my friends ended up working at 4 World Trade Center for PATH, and at the DOT or MTA. All right near eachother. Its crazy how many of the offices are downtown.

But yes tons of projects coming up. Ive been nonstop since 5 AM with field meetings and DOT/Port Authority/MTA slides all day.

I used to work on Hudson Tunnel project, on the NJ Side, it seems it was taking off prior to me switching jobs. Hopefully it builds that momentum.

Seriously why not build a bridge instead? There was once a proposal for a massive bridge running from NJ to Manhattan (no, not the GWB). Look up the Lindenthal bridge.

Hmmm. Did you attend the online preproposal conference for SAS Ph II yesterday? I did!

Stop. There's nothing "seriously" about that. Didn't you already post this "why not build a bridge" business earlier in the thread, or was that somebody else? The reasons were discussed.

They are going to build an additional two-track tunnel and then rehab the old one. It has begun. They aren't going to build a bridge.

How is that possible?
Let's not forget that we were authoritatively informed by another forum member that NYC is now a "ghost town".

A different forum member keeps telling us that "everyone is leaving NJ", despite ample evidence that the continued construction of new apartment and condo complexes indicates an influx of people to NJ. Just this morning, an article on NJ.com regarding the impending widening of the NJ Turnpike extension in Hudson County mentions one of the major motivations for that project:

The state needs a $10.7 billion project to construct a widened New Jersey Turnpike extension to and from the Holland Tunnel because of a predicted influx of more than 170,000 new residents and 67,000 added jobs in the region, according to a new 294-page study.

Long as democrats control senate and WH federal government will be playing Santy Claus far as Gateway Tunnel project is concerned.

With feds ponying up another $4 billion Gateway is about 70% paid for by money from Washington, D.C. (Biden's infrastructure scheme). Consequently NY and NJ are on the hook for lower contributions towards their share of balance.

Schumer like Daniel Patrick Moynihan is old school U.S. senator who know how to deliver pork or whatever federal sending for their state. Moynihan spearheaded federal funds for "new" Penn Station (Farley USPS office), now Schumer's turn with Gateway tunnel.

All the documentation has been submitted, per the GDC's announcement, and the funding funding agreement is expected in June. Meanwhile, two contracts for the Palisades and Manhattan segments of the tunnel are under procurement, and the Hudson River Ground Stabilization contract (to strength the weak soil in the riverbed where the tunnel goes under the Hudson) has begun.
