During the 1960's, my family and our friends spent many Saturdays or Sundays at Penners Lake, in Upper Saddle River. Does anyone know if the Lake is still open to the public, is it private? When we get together and talk about our childhoods, we eventually wind up talking about our time spent at Penners Lake. Most of us are not in the Tri-State area anymore and would like to know anything you could share about Penners Lake.

Thanks

Default Penners Lake Day Camp

Ahhhh .. Penners Lake ! Home of the Penners Lake Day Camp. Now, when I was between .. say .. 7 - 10 ... my mom and dad used to send me and my brother off to wonderful Penners Lake Day Camp, in Saddle River, NJ. Now top my knowledge, it is not there today .. since I think it was a man made lake . .and with the property values in Saddle River .. it's either a renamed pond in someone's backyard, or was drained and filled in, and now constitutes a nice front or back lawn for someone.

But I do remember Penners Lake Day Camp with many fond memories .. in the late 50's and probably for 1960 and 61. And somewhere in my personal memorabilia, I still have the Penners Lake Day Camp banners.

Yupper .. those were the good old days!

Ermo

Default Penner's Lake

Slow thread is this! My uncle, Hank Beck, owned initially, and was a partner finally, running Beck-Adrien Day Camp at Penner's Lake in the late thirties I guess, into, I'm not sure, at least the late 50's. I went there in the late 30's, and was a "junior councilor" sometime in the late 40's. That damn lake was cold in the mornings when we were introduced to swimming, something I never really became terribly interested in, finding it difficult to breath under water I remember being driven to the Camp in the morning while riding in the real wood trimmed station wagon, on benches against each side of the wagon. Ah, the good old days

Default Penner's Lake

I should have noted that I live in Maryland now, so have no idea as to the Lake's status, but may take a drive to my birth State, New Jersey, in the near future (OK, I'm 78, so better hurry!) to check out the old neighborhoods I lived and went to school in. I left NJ for MD in 1964.

The Upper Saddle River Historical Society is writing an article about Penner's Lake in the 1950s and the Red Log Inn Restaurant there run by Joe Penner. Information and memories would be welcome.

Wink Penners Lake History

My father's aunt and uncle, Ben and Bert Penner owned Penners Lake in the 50s and 60s, until they moved to Florida. Their son, Joe Penner, (now in his 80s... his sister Phyllis passed away many years ago) who also moved to Florida, is now living mostly in Connecticut. I just called him to see what the story is with Penner Lake. He recently at a lovely visit with the Historical Society. He was able to go back to the house that he lived so many years in. The house is there and improved by the current owners. The lake, which was created by damming up the Saddle River, is no longer there and the river is allowed to flow. I'll have to take a look when the weather warms up!

Default Penners lake day camp

Does anyone know who owned penners lake day camp in the 70's? I went to camp there and wanted to get in touch with the owners daughter and eventually a counselor there in the riding program. Thanks

Default Penners lake

I also spent time at Penners lake in the 50s and early 60s.
I have been looking for the exact location for many years now but was mistakenly looking under the spelling Pena's lake.
I am glad to have finally found folks who know what I am talking about !!
Can someone give me the exact address.

It was Morris Corn until I left. I'd check facebook for more information
He had 3 daughter and 2 sons as I recall...all either worked on the camp or went to the camp
I can't remember his wifes name though...
