Seems like the individual gyms within a brand can vary a decent amount. I've mostly found Equinox acceptable, though the one at Orchard St. feels claustrophobic to me. I don't give a damn about "luxury" but, God, I need a gym to be clean (and welcoming to women). I wish you didn't have to pay through the nose for that here.

As everyone is saying, closest is best for actually going.

The gyms vary even within the same brand. There is no consistency. You'd have to compare specific locations.
Ultimately, the best gym is the one the most convenient to get to, so it would be different for each person.

I personally skip the same brand gym on my way to my gym, because the locations have different hours of operation.

It's the one you'll go to, regardless of what you'll pay. My building's gym is cheaper but I pay a bit more to go to the chain down the block because I want the neighborhood vibe instead of the building vibe.
I have a choice of Chelsea and a brand new LifeTime, both of which are high end. I can't afford those, nor would I go 7 minutes further from home.

I live next door to Equinox (UES). Fancy Schmancy and much higher price doesn't get an extra kilo on my bench press. NYSC for free a block away gets me what I need.

Lani, do you think spending more gets you a better body? Or are you looking for something else from a gym? A prosperous hookup perhaps?

There is nothing luxurious about SWEAT.
