How is this area? Looking on Google Maps it looks very nice. I currently live in the West Village and plan to move to Brooklyn with my girlfriend. I drive to work and she takes the subway to the Financial District. Is this a safe area for her to walk home by herself or for us to be out at night?
How is the area for walking to restaurants, biking, walking a dog, etc...?
I appreciate your help. We plan to take a look at the apartment this weekend!
im not familar with washington ave specifically, but I am with waverly avenue since I used to work over there, from what I've seen of that area its very nice, pretty clean and diverse and a really quick ride to manhattan.
That's a very nice neighborhood--just to the west of Pratt Institute. And there's all kinds of new shopping and restaurants along Myrtle Avenue (that's the block above Willoughby). The closest subway station is Clinton/Washington on the G line, one block below DeKalb. But you can also take the B-38 bus on DeKalb into downtown Brooklyn.
Thanks for the comments Fred and Hazeleyes. I hope to see it in person this weekend. Like I said, safety is my number one priority for her. Is this area good late at night? She goes back to Staten Island once or twice a week and comes back late at night (11pm-12am).
Much of Clinton Hill is an officially designated historic district. It's also within the brownstone belt. Translation: there's a lot of wealth in the neighborhood! Your girlfriend should be fine, so long as good old-fashioned common sense is a part of the picture.
That block itself is very nice, but keep in mind it's right next to the park and the Walt Whitman projects (along with others I can't remember) which aren't exactly good projects...

its not right next to the park and walt whitman projects/ingersoll projects. the projects start a few blocks away on carlton avenue and myrtle avenue, and run down to prince street (near flatbush avenue).
washington avenue is nice in clinton hill.

Oh yeah, my mistake. I was confusing it with Washington Park. I just saw Washington and immediately thought of that block. :P
