Ignore the first of the 3 commercials. It’s the last two commercials I want to talk about. They use the Datsun/Nissan of the 70s to try to connect to the Nissan vehicles of today. They spend some big money to get this actress as the spokes person. I don’t care for her and believe they could have gotten someone else. The script and video editing makes it seem exciting. While it works well for connecting the 240Z to today’s version I don’t believe it works well with the other vehicles. It seems like they’re trying to build an emotional connection to the brand instead of the vehicles. It sort of reminds me of those exciting stop motion GI Joe and Barbi commercials https://youtu.be/fGMI_mWmb7g
While entertaining they really didn’t help Nissan much in that time. In fact, the car in the above commercial had ended production when the commercial aired.

It is a commercial, they will do anything to sell you a car.
Honda at some point was using the 1st gen Civic, the competition was using their lawnmower.
As far as poorly timed commercials, at this point, any new car ad is pretty much a waste of time. People are putting deposits down on cars arriving in a few months, not sure why they would waste money for the ads.

The 240Z and the 300ZX were iconic. Why shouldn't Nissan put a few images of them into new commercials, particularly since the new Z has a lot of styling cues from the 240? The 300ZX TT ads with Barbie and GI Joe, Mr. K, and "Enjoy the ride" were iconic as well. There's nothing wrong with a car manufacturer celebrating its truly great cars to promote the brand.
