ROSS The message from those hardy souls wintering in North Dakota and working the oil fields is one to be admired do what you have to do. That's the creed followed by many who have come to North Dakota in search of a regular paycheck. Some are even seeking to save some money with hope of getting ahead financially, but it often proves to be more difficult than it first seemed when entering the state.

These six men have traveled from far and wide to cash in on the oil boom in Williston, North Dakota. But due to the severe housing crunch in the area, the only place they have to call home right now is the Walmart parking lot.
From hauling crude in semi-trucks to getting their hands dirty out at the oil rigs, these women are living in America's newest boomtown and are hard at work in a traditionally male-dominated world.
WATFORD CITY, N.D. (CNNMoney) -- For those who have spent their entire lives in the previously quiet farm towns that dot the northwestern corner of North Dakota, the discovery of oil in the Bakken formation has been anything but fortuitous.
