Hi everyone my family and I are moving to the Herndon area and I am searching for educational options for my two children who are fluent Japanese speakers to continue on with their bi lingual studies. Just wondering if there is anything out there?

I don't know - but I suggest you try contacting https://jaswdc.org - for advice.

Or contact the Embassy of Japan.

Don’t know the ages of your children but Fairfax County Public Schools has Japanese Immersion at Fox Mill Elementay, Herndon, and Great Falls Elementary. It’s a lottery to get in for first grade but may be worth checking.

A little far from Herndon, but there is a Japanese American cultural center in Annandale Community park. Maybe you can get in touch with them.

I think there's a school in Rockville or Gaithersburg. But the numbers have been dwindling, so I'm not sure they're still around.

Japanese Language School

Washington Japanese Heritage Center

Maruichi Grocery Store

Japanese Americans' Care Fund

Ekoji Buddhist Temple in Burke, Va

Most of the JA I've run into on the Virginia side are in the Fairfax City area.

If you're not already getting it, I'd sign up for TVJapan which has the kids shows in the morning. It's all in Japanese language as opposed to NHK Japan which is English.

No suggestions-just want to offer words of support for you and wishes for a solution. I spent my preschool years in Okinawa and several of our neighborhood gang of 3 - 5 year olds were fluent. But back then, there were no options to continue on when we returned to the States. Same happened with my much older brother living in Germany. He was fluent, leaving our parents in the dust. We are probably the only country that only speaks one language. It's growing, but mostly by immigrants coming into the US.

I'd like to offer the suggestion of keeping your kids at home.
Have you seen what's been pushed and taught in both public & private schools?
It's downright destructive. There are lots of online sites that send curriculum for everything,
so it doesn't have to be scary. I did it for my daughter when the out of control classrooms
were the ones my kid suffered. Check them out. I think I used Sonlight.
Check around
