I've had the same car for about 4 years and have had the same tags the whole time. I have to admit, I don't look at the plates very often. This week, I was washing off the salt and noticed my front tag is missing. I'm not sure if it fell off, or what. I doubt it fell off, because the back tags are still there and I used the same bolts and made sure they were tight. It is possible that someone was stealing them and got scared off before they could get to the back tag. I really don't feel like buying new ones, but I might have to.

Can anyone give me some advice on this?

Thanks.

Yep!
Although I would still report the front plate as lost/stolen. You don't want someone driving through red light cameras getting you tickets.

No front plates are required in Ohio and all new issued registrations come with one plate.
If you report your plate lost/stolen the State will issue you a new plate and it will only be one for the back of your vehicle and will be the new Standard plate, if that matters to you.

I believe it’s only $15 plus tax and fees to replace a lost or stolen plate.

I would report it. It's not uncommon for criminals to put stolen tags on a vehicle when committing another crime.

One guy I worked with had his tag stolen and it was later used on a getaway car for an armed robbery. He had to go to the trial to testify it was his license plate, that it had been stolen and that he had reported it.
