Wow, in Texas there isn't a significant problem with radon but I guess it's pretty significant in Ohio.

We've got it in CO also and I don't think it is a big deal. But it doesn't cost much to mitigate so why not do it? We paid $1K for a system when we bought our house and the original equipment is still working. We didn't want the previous owners to do it since we wanted to be sure it was done right with quality equipment by a contractor with a warranty vs just a hack job that they got the lowest price for.

Ours was just a smidge over the limit but we figured we would have to do it to sell so why not do it to live with the benefits?

Looks like costs haven't risen much in the last couple of decades.

"Radon mitigation typically costs between $777 and $1,232,according to HomeAdvisor. The national average cost for a radon mitigation system is $1,003, with a low end of $400 and a high end of $1,650."

I am finding out all kinds of stuff since moving out of state. For instance, I am finding out that radon mitigation is substantially more expensive (Like $3000 and up) on a crawl space if the mitigation company has to enclose the space, which is typical. Crap!

The house I am considering is over a crawlspace of course. Mine is just a smidge over the limit of 4 whatevers as well, but I do not want lung cancer so no thanks.

Radon testing is a big fat nothing in Texas. Oh, well. I am not buying a home in Texas.

I thought this was interesting:
