Panhandlers in Oklahoma city (Francis: law, move to, homeless)

We are new to OKC and I'm amazed at the number and types of panandlers. For Example, a woman is standing on the corner with her sign and the man that is with her is sitting in a lawn chair on his cell phone. Anyone see anything wrong with this picture? Some of the panhandlers I see are quite young. Surely there must be some jobs they can work at or do they make more standing on the street corner.
There just seems to be so many. More than I have seen in other cities.

In comparison to other major sized cities in the U.S, OKC's panhandler problem is nowhere close to places like New York City, Seattle, San Francisco and L.A. Despite the numbers you may see, I hardly ever see the aggression of these folks like you do on the west and east coast. Law enforcement closely monitors how they operate and if I'm not mistaken, they cannot panhandle after sundown, at least I hardly see them doing so.

In this day in age, this problem will only grow worse until the government improves mental health services, addressing drug addiction problems and homelessness. Oklahoma has a ways to go in that department but there are states where those services are substantially more lacking than here. Still, there are far more positives than negatives about OKC and Oklahoma in general.

Go visit Albuquerque. Panhandlers are allowed to walk down the line of cars waiting at red lights and shake their sign or collection can at your window. Most are still polite and move to the next car, but once in a while you get a more aggressive one and he/she yells or taps/knocks on your windows.
