Slipped in from Erie, PA area and wow, water is EXPENSIVE your way!

I pay $21.00 month for water/sewage (up to 31,000 gallons).

Gas here is $43.00 a month

My electric bill is $165 in the worst month.

The place that I live in is a 2850 sq ft townhouse. I pay $800/month in rent. $50 of that is for a garage that I rent for DH's car.

I recall water being really expensive when I lived in the Jackson, TN area for some reason.

$800 a month for a 2850 sq ft townhouse sounds like quite a bargain to me.

Most Oklahomans expect everyone to fend for themselves. Why should they pay for other people's medical, food and housing expenses after they have been resourceful enough to pay for their own needs?

Your $21 a month for water/sewage is a bargain damned near anywhere with central service. The numbers quoted by others are representative.

Up north we refer to it as a basic "safety net", that's why. Even our most far to the right Conservatives wouldn't touch the safety net with MY ten foot pole. The world has moved on from homesteading free land, stealing land from the Indians, shipping them to Oklahoma, discovering oil, and then stealing it all back again. It's a big world out there, and the economic cycles come hard and fast.

Unless of course you want a meth gun crazed free for all and let GOD sort it out. That's why.

Don't get me wrong. I was in Grade six in Oklahoma and never met better, more caring teachers and adults. I worked in the cafeteria to pay for my hot lunch, and I've worked all my life no matter where I've been. But beginning in the early nineties it was a real wake up call in the work world, and you need that safety net to regroup. That's why.

Do these people talking about the expensive water in Oklahoma towns take into account that Oklahoma municipalities generally do not have residential property tax (only on bond issues or to satisfy court judgments)?
