I'm writing a book about ghost stories in Omaha and would like for anyone who has experienced ghostly encounters to share their experience for possible inclusion in the book. I am particularly interested in the Old Market area, but any eyewitness experiences are welcome. I do not want folklore; I want actual experiences, please. I will then write a short story based on your experience (possibly including details from other people if I get more than one person telling about the same place).

If you would like to share your experience, please send an email to ghoststories7@gmail.com with the following information:

* Your name
* Whether or not you want your actual name used in the story
* Your phone number (in case I need to call to clarify details)
* Where the event happened (address)
* When the event happened (day or night, year, month, etc. -- as much as you can remember about the time of the event)
* Description of the event
* Who or what you think is doing the haunting and why
* How many others were with you when you experienced the haunting and whether or not those people had the same experience
* Any other details you would like to include

And I need for you to please state clearly in the email 1) that you are giving me permission to use the information, 2) that you expect no payment in return, 3) that you understand a short story will be created based on your experience, and 4) that your sending me the email and typing your full name at the bottom of the email is your digital signature attesting to the statement.

Thank you very much! I'll post a message here when the book is published.

I haven't gotten any responses to my request for stories, Mr. Jeffy. So maybe there aren't any ghosts in Omaha? I can't believe that. I'll keep trying to locate them and will post back on this thread as soon as I have some.

I never really believed in spirits or ghosts until my family and I lived in a house in South Omaha, not too far from the Old Market, actually. We have since moved out of the house. I will sent you the experiences we had
with "John".

I wonder if that "Squarlcage" Jail in Council Bluffs is haunted, that's a creepy place even in bright daylight. I also heard that there is a "haunted" self storage place in Omaha.

sauerkraut: Yes, the Squirrel Cage Jail is haunted. Very haunted, in fact! That story was the first one of the Council Bluffs stories I've done, and it will be on the DVD "The Hauntings of Council Bluffs", due in stories in October of this year.

billiefan: Thank you for your list! Do you have any personal experiences with ghosts or any knowledge of the specifics of the stories about any of the locations you mentioned? Hummel Park is another place in Omaha that's known to be very haunted. Not someplace I'd go at night, for sure!

Victor: As I said in the email, thank you so much for sharing your story!

I don't see how a out door park can be haunted, or what can go on there.

Here's a list of all the supposed haunted places in Nebraska. There are quite a few listed in Omaha and Bellevue. Hope this helps!

Shadowlands Haunted Places Index - Nebraska

By the way, Hummel Park is probably the creepiest place I've ever been to. I made the mistake of going at night. It's a beautiful area but very eerie at the same time.
