We are considering a move job to OC and I would love to hear your thoughts regarding neighborhood.

We like well established friendly neighborhoods in great school districts, close to the water. We live in a super fun area of Phoenix, called Arcadia and we want to replace that as best we can.

Laguna - I love Laguna Beach, but I worry that we are so isolated that I will have to drive an hour to little league each day, but I have always wanted to live in a small beach town, so naturally I gravitate to it.

Corona Del Mar - I know there is great wealth in both of these areas, but I worry it will be superficial and over the top here.

Son - 9 (into sports, hikes, beach)
Daughter 13 (into art, theater, beach)

Budget - 3M +-
Commute: TBD (lets not factor this quite yet)

These are sold listings, so not considering these home, but rather the areas.

We were just there yesterday. I agree that that is one LONG drive on Crown Valley Parkway, and something to consider if you're doing it daily.

The canyon road isn't much better, especially in the summer when the city is swarmed with tourists. Much as I love Laguna Beach, getting in and out on a daily basis is a nightmare.

Newport Beach/CdM is the flashiest place in OC. OP, you might want to extend your search to Dana Point. It's beach-close and affluent but not a super-rich enclave like CdM. And it has much better access to activities than Laguna.

I love Dana point, as a family we’ve gone down there often. Unfortunately the high school is far behind the other two, so we had to rule it out

Corona Del Mar would be best. No city or in this case area, is problem free, but it is your best choice between the 2. It also has my favorite ebach, the State Park.

I am a graduate of Corona del Mar High School, so are my three kids. My oldest grandson will be a junior at Laguna Beach High School this fall.

With kids 9 & 13 years old I would grab a house in the "Port streets" (like the Port Cardiff one) as quickly as possible and never look back. Anderson Elementary, CdM Middle School and CdM HS are still some of the finest schools in not just the county, but the state. The Port streets are great places to raise young children.

Keeping your kids down to earth is what you do. You shape them, not the culture.
