What's the latest on sand replenishment in OC particularly from Newport Beach down to Laguna beach/Dana Point? I read an article regarding replenishment from Seal Beach to NB but nothing else. Looks like the past winter storms have caused quite a bit of erosion at the beaches this year.

Beach nourishment is common. They are supposed to be doing it every several years but it probably has to do with funding that they haven’t for what seems like 10 or 15 yrs…until now.

I went to one of the beaches (Newport and Laguna) there not long ago and some areas looked very different. Saw landscape I didn't see before but I suppose the storm took away a lot of the sand. Hope the sand gets replenished sooner than later.

I prefer natural beaches. Why do we have to replace the sand at all?

Nature causes erosion. Coastal beach nourishment is common. I grew up in LA County…so, it’s just a normal thing IMO.

So did I, but I didn't go to the beach enough to notice.

Um…you never heard the local news, teachers or anyone talk about it? One of my favorite lessons in science when I was in elementary school was a beach erosion project. We made a model in a large tray with sand on one side, water, blue food coloring & made “waves” on the water side to show how it changes the sand & how far it reaches by changing the size & speed of the waves. It was super fun.
