So, Im looking at buying a bit of rural property before the pending social collapse. Does the Oregon Pines Subdivison ~9 miles NW of Beatty, Oregon have a Nazi SS, er *ahem* a Home Owners Assoication (HOA) that manages it? I'd rather save the money and headache of dealing with them during the sure to be stressful months that lead up to the end of functional economy, and civil services. Im a not-quite-Outdoorsman, and know how rural Chilloquin is. Is this area much further off than that. And how are the roads from, say, I-5 to Beatty? Ive looked up google maps and terrain, and it dosent seem all that bad, but real experienced anecdotes are always more interesting.

Thanks,
Dave

You want to look at this very close. It isn't what you think it is, and development costs are high.

This area will never be what they thought back in 1968. Someone started selling '' snake oil '' then. You will have to be careful going in up here, you don't want to get the county involved or you run 1 serious ass mistake pissing people off. There are maybe less than 12 lots occupied year round. There are not supposed to be "any" Rv's period. There is no water, sewer, cable or power. The power lines are about 5 or 6 miles away. This area is very beautiful, high dessert. I'm not saying not to buy but just be careful of others feelings. There are people that have put in some money and time to live here, respect that.

Visit and LOOK before you buy. It IS beautiful but also remote and lightly populated. Gravel and even some dirt roads. Some downright scuzzy places and some REALLY NICE places. Small, friendly communities nearby (Beatty, Bonanza). NOT a quick jaunt to I-5. The county is GREAT to work with . Oh, I don't believe there's an HOA or CCR's in this subdivision. If there are, they aren't doing anything!

Lengthy, interesting article, Outlaw Country, about Timathy Taylor who bought a lot in Oregon Pines Subdivision in Klamath County. Written by a journalist, Emma Marris, who lives in Klamath Falls: https://magazine.atavist.com/outlaw-...=pocket-newtab

So they know what they are getting into, it should be required reading for the survivalist/off-the-grid/alternative construction/etc. type people who have searched the Web and found lots for unbelievably cheap prices in places like Oregon Pines and Klamath Falls Forest Estates. They often ask questions here on the CD Forums.

Taylor took solar panels and batteries from his neighbor's property. He thought it was abandoned. There was a dispute and he killed the neighbor, but not before he had called the Sheriff's department multiple times. He was charged with murder. His first trial ended with a hung jury: https://www.heraldandnews.com/news/l...56d547c0d.html

Wow, fabulous reporting and writing by Emma Marris. I agree, should be required reading.
