It depends on how you define wealth. Real estate is one of the top ways that wealth is generated. Now if you are talking about how are real estate commissions are "re-spent" within the local economy that would be a different question.

So locally real estate agents would support the following businesses: home inspectors, tech businesses for computers/phones, etc, appraisers, contractors, printing companies, and photographers. Many agents hire administrative positions as well for marketing support, etc and those are hourly rate jobs, generally speaking.

So they extract and then feed some of those monies into other service industries.

That said, Salem has about one agent for every 116 people which is a bazillion too many agents. Florence has one agent for every 35 people. I don't even know what to say to that number.

Just yikes. I had no idea it was that bad. It doesn't compute for a town of less than 10K. They can't all possibly be making any sort of living; I wonder if it's because many are semi-retired but still have a license?

Someone's opening a Burger King, and oh man the crying about that...a couple of new housing developments are going in and the screaming....smh.
I hope the carwash is a good one. Not just another one with four walls and a hose for you to hose your car down yourself. I can do that at home for free.

I'm looking forward to the Burger King. I used to stop at a food truck in Florence to get a burger. But I think the guy priced himself out of business when he raised the prices from $7.50 to $10.00 a burger. It was a good burger, but not worth $10.00. Right now if you don't like McCrap or A&W, the only alternatives are to go to the waterfront, pay $13.00 for the burger and wait an hour for them to make it for you.

Don't get your hopes up too high for Burger King. They aren't that good. If you must have fast food burgers, bring a Burgerville to town.

It sounds like what you really need is a good Weber stainless steel grill that can withstand the salt air.

Florence has a drive-through carwash on the left side of 101.

I don't eat burgers, but locals have a lot of good things to say about the burgers at Jerry's, so maybe it takes getting off 101 and out of Old Town to find a good one.

They keep a little bit of the money involved in the local economy. The seller is taking all of their money and moving out of the area. Only the agent's fees and the escrow fees stay local to be circulated through local restaurants and other local businesses.

At least Burger King's meat has a good smoke flavor, and it comes with a generous amount of lettuce and tomato, which you can't get from McCrap.

But I agree about Burgerville. My dream would be for Burgerville and Big Town Hero to come to the Coast and replace all the McD's and Subways. But I doubt that will ever happen. Burgerville and Big Town Hero are geared towards locals, and there is not enough population to support them in the small towns on the coast. Everything on the coast has to be geared towards tourists. Who will either go to a bar and grill and pay $13 for a burger, or if they just want fast food, will look for a chain they are familiar with.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will give Jerry's a try sometime.

^You could also try Game Thyme if you like food trucks. They're usually in the PetMart parking lot, but I'm not sure of days and hours, but they probably have those listed on their Facebook page. People seem to rave about that place.

Didn't there used to be a Burger King along 101 in Florence about 10-15 years ago if I remember correctly. Giving it another try I guess.
