Not actually a gasoline shortage. There is plenty of gasoline. It is a driver shortage and the gas isn't getting to the gas stations.

25% of the tanker trucks in this country are sitting idle without drivers.

My son drives a tanker. He works out of Spokane but for the last few years, he has been moved up and down the west coast. He is currently in Eugene and tells me that 4 out of 5 stations that he delivered to last week were out of gasoline before he got there. He's delivering up and down the Oregon Coast and to a few of the smaller towns off of I-5.

Just a heads up, if you live in those areas. It is fire season and gasoline supply isn't guaranteed. Consider keeping the cars filled up in case you get an evacuation due to forest fire. It would kinda ruin your day to get the order to vacate and not be able to get any gas for the car so you could drive out.

My daughter lives and works in Pacific City and says they have been absolutely CRUSHED this past week by the tens of thousands of Portland and Willamette valley folks fleeing the 115 degree heat. Says she hasn't ever seen it more crowded than last weekend. She didn't mention any fuel shortage though, although she only lives 3 blocks from her work so only uses her car to get groceries. So maybe hasn't noticed.

I haven't seen any gas stations here out of gas. I just bought gas yesterday. No lines, no shortages, but the price was a bit high at $3.59.

The trucker shortage is real and there is a lot of talk about potential fuel shortages due to the inability to get truck drivers. Driverless trucks aren't quite there yet to make up for the deficiency right now. Gas will likely go up as they will have to pay truckers better pay.

I stayed in the valley since I have a heat pump and didn't want to deal with the crush I knew was headed to the coast. I'm not surprised by the crush at the coast at all.
