Could someone shed a light on if there is support in elementary schools for children with autism?
Ho good is autism support (schools, specialists) in Gatineau?
I live in Gatineau but I know nothing about this. There are both French (the vast majority) and English (a few) schools in Gatineau, and they would likely all offer some services. It is probably best to contact the school boards in order to find out.
Any services outside the English schools would likely be offered mostly in French I'd say.

My research with limited French shows that ASD support is more concentrated in Montreal. I would venture to assume that mainstreaming exists in Quebec just like in the rest of Canada. A school may have learning accommodations and personal support staff as we have now (the child is in 1st grade).
I was leaning towards Gatineau because of the obvious reasons for people with kids, but also because I want them to learn French.
But moving to Ontario (or Quebec) I would expect to get access to more advanced support than what we have here in NS (a small rural school struggling to reign him in - he's high-functioning and at the first sight is no different from a regular child - but doesn't see the reason for being in a classroom!). Moving from a place with a dearth of info about autism to a place with a dearth of info about autism almost doesn't make sense.

Thanks. Wow. But, Alberta is out of question for us. I see Ontario is fighting to get similar ABA funding. Basically, I have to decide between Ottawa and Gatineau.

I believe that the general practice in Quebec is to integrate children with autism into regular classes when possible. There are also special classes for children with autism and other types of learning challenges.
Great news - as of Februay 2012, Ontario will provide ABA to all ASD kids:
The Ministry of Children and Youth Services' new Applied Behaviour
Analysis (ABA) Service
In December 2010, the Ministry of Children and Youth Services announced a new ABA service focusing on teaching life skills to all children with Autism. This service is expected to be operating by February 2012. All children with a diagnosis of Autism, including Asperger's and PDD-NOS, are entitled to this service. To register your child call the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario Autism Program at 613-745-2366 . Registering will not affect your child's position on the Intensive Behaviour Intervention (IBI) waiting list or other services offered. This ABA service will be offered in your local area. Ages served are 0-17 ( under 18).
