Areas to live in Hull or Gatineau without car (buses, transport)

Hello,
I am a new French resident in Québec and want to settle close to Ottawa. For the first year I don't plan to own a car, which areas close to Ottawa but in Québec are better to favor?
Hull seems very close but it is not the case for Gatineau that seems a little bit farther.
All feedback are welcome.

Hull is actually part of Gatineau (the city of Gatineau includes several towns that merged together to create the new city). Hull is basically the centre-ville of Gatineau. So, very convenient.
This is the link to the website for the bus company for Gatineau ("STO"), it includes all the route maps:

There are also some bus routes from Ottawa that go to Hull (number 8, number 105, 96, 95), so this is the link to the Ottawa bus company website (OCTranspo):

You might see some news articles about a STO bus strike happening now on certain days... but that's very rare. I've lived in Ottawa for 17 years, this is the first time that they've had a strike. Besides, it doesn't affect the Ottawa buses that go through downtown Hull in Gatineau.
