I know Canada had fur trading forts by 1670. the Hudson Bay Company (England) and Reveille (French) fur trading companies Their number were aplenty in Ruperts Land and then in Northwest Territories and Hudsons Bay. In about year 1000 Viking discovered Vinlan ( Newfoundland) and built a permanent settlement there (nearly 500 years before Columbos.
The first provinces of Upper Canada and Lower Canada were established by the Crown in 1791 as colonies of British Canada. But that was scrapped when Upper and Lower joined together as one in 1841.
Rebellions were on-going between Upper and Lower one of those provinces being primarily French nationals because the old country France claimed what is known today as Quebec was their very own. So how old is Canada really? It was being settled in and around 1670. Forts were mini cities busy with trading. The First Nations were right in there with their trapping pelts and often camped outside the fort surrounding it.
